South East Dance's annual flagship event, DanceShorts 2006, was a curated programme of the most exciting new dance film from around the world. Held as part of the Brighton Festival, this annual celebration of dance film and video showcased some of the most innovative and influential works in this medium, from new commissions and world premieres to contemporary classics.  It also offered the first chance to participate in Nightingale Nights, the first of South East Dance's dance film forums held at the Nightingale Theatre, and chaired by Liz Aggiss (above).

The Fall of Adam, directed by Gail Sneddon, is an urban regeneration of Adam's fall from grace.  Taking the story to new hi-rise heights, Adam's descent is a literal wrestle with his demons.  It's fight on flights as Eve turns from the divine to the bovine, and Satan shows up to air his dirty laundry...

Hard Told, directed by Jane Mason, is a journey of suffocating intimacy and isolation.  Through the eyes of an elderly deaf man, a dance emerges.  Bare feet...a muddy field...a distant tree...

...a woman...

Taking pedestrian movement through barren landscapes, Hard Told searches for boundaries of time and space, guided by her protagonist's deviating narrative.
