Commissions announced
South East Dance is delighted to announce the five new commissions that we will be funding:
Isabel Rocamora - Body of War is a film about the nature of military gesture and how it may relate to the humanity of its performers. Through a momentary collapse of the heroic, the piece stages the pathos of war strategy rehearsal in its formal repetition of acts of violence. The film will be directed and choreographed by Isabel Rocamora, and produced by Infinito Productions/ South East Dance.
Matthew Hellett and Simon Wilkinson - Mrs Sparkle is a collaboration between filmmakers Matthew Hellett and Simon Wilkinson and features a performance in which Matthew comes face to face with his own drag queen alter-ego, Mrs Sparkle. She's a much needed source of lightness in Matthew's life and a charming and cheeky influence on anyone who witnesses her dance. This film will be made with support from Carousel and Junk TV.
Liz Aggiss - Party Animal directed by Liz Aggiss is an anthropological romp that takes a piercing peek at the zoomorphic qualities innate in all of us. From clean precision to mayhem and mess, choreographed set pieces, scenarios and encounters, time is frozen, lapsed and ramped while these party animals get down and dirty.
Sergio Cruz - Hannah explores the impressive skills, playful ambition and dreams of Hannah Dempsey, a young dancer and athlete. The film will focus on the connection between arts and sports with emphasis on the athlete-dancer relationship.
Billy Cowie - Tango de Soledad will be a black and white three minute film available in normal 2D format and also in a 3D anaglyph. The piece will be directed and choreographed by Billy Cowie and based on his composition Tango de Soledad for cello and piano. Although the work will be for a solo dancer it will involve a triple choreography of dancer, light source and camera.
