Moving Voices

A large scale youth led volunteering programme for 16-25 year olds. across the South East of England providing over 4000 new opportunities for young adults to get involved, get their voices heard and develop new skills through dance. The project was particularly aimed at young parents and young people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds in the South East. Some of the major successes include designing their own project website, project managing a community dance stage at a public event for an audience of 12,000, setting up youth dance committees and choreographing for community carnival groups. We increased the number of volunteers working with our organisaton from under 10 to 116. Jo Cornes, former volunteer administrator for moving Voices said: "I learned more than I ever believed I would and improved myself as a person and a professional". Jo went on to gain paid employment with Henri Oguike Dance Company as a result of skills and confidence gained through her experience with moving Voices.
