Forward Motion (2008-2013)
Forward Motion was delivered in partnership with the British Council from 2008-2013. The collection features 22 historic, seminal and ground breaking films demonstrating the diversity and durability of British dance and the influence it has had throughout the world. Forward Motion creates a moving snapshot of Britain's prolific screen dance output.
The Forward Motion legacy project aims to continue the work of these great British screen dance makers. Through funding we support projects that aim to raise the profile of, celebrate, contextualise and stimulate debate about screen dance.
To date we have supported a range of artists whose work features on the Forward Motion collection enabling them to lever additional funding support from both UK and international partners to pursue projects that might otherwise not be affordable. In addition we have worked with international partners in the Middle East, Morocco, Italy and Spain to set up workshops led by British filmmakers aimed at supporting aspiring screen dance filmmakers.
Over five years the project toured the world, reaching over 21,000 audience members across six continents and delivering 43 educational wrap-around workshops and master classes.
Forward Motion is a British Council project co-produced with South East Dance, with support from Arts Council England.
