South East Dance and previous Big Dance events
South East Dance led Big Dance South East England 2010. It was a tremendously successful project that characterised the way in which South East Dance works across the region to support local dance opportunities. The project engaged approximately 12,000 people in dance activity, including 84 artists and 1,862 online audience members with a total of 244 performances and workshops taking place between June and July 2010.
In 2012 South East Dance once again delivered Big Dance South East England. This included directly producing dance activity in Brighton and Kent, along with coordinating partners across the whole of the region to deliver dance activity in their local areas. The project culminated in a week of celebratory and participatory events. Big Dance 2012 South East England engaged a live audience of almost 2,400 as well as an online audience of more than 5,000. 350 artists and active participants where involved over the course of the week. In 2014 Big Dance South East brought extraordinary, unique and unexpected events to a public space near you. From Protein's energetic pop-up performances of (In)Visable Dancing in Canterbury city centre, to Reckless Sleepers' raw and splintering A String Section in a disused Brighton market space - the landmark site destined to become The Dance Space, a new home for dance in the City with national significance.
