South East Dance is delighted to announce Jamie Watton as new Chief Executive/Artistic Director

Jamie Watton, previously Senior Officer, Dance Strategy at Arts Council England's National Office, succeeds Mairead Turner, whose achievements as Chief Executive over the past four and a half years have positioned South East Dance as a key creative force. Jamie brings over 18 years of expertise to his new role. Jamie will take up the post from February 2009. Click here for a full press release.

 

Dance for Camera Festival

5- 7 December

South East Dance presents the 11th Dance for Camera Festival in Brighton. There's something for everyone this year: from an installation of a boldly projected 3D dancer suspended from the ceiling; to the launch of Forward Motion, a collection of outstanding British Screen Dance; to a programme curated by a panel of young people aged 15- 22. There are World and European premieres, documentaries, short dance films, installations and an artists' symposium. More...

 

 

Five new commissions for South East Dance

Following a fantastic response to the call for applicants for screen dance commissions, South East Dance are pleased to announce we will be commissioning five new pieces of screen dance work. The successful applicants chosen to create new work are: Isabel Rocamora, Matthew Hellet and Simon Wilkinson, Liz Aggiss, Sergio Cruz and Billy Cowie. 11 Million Takeover Day

 

As part of 11 Million Takeover Day on Friday 7 November, South East Dance opened their doors to students from three schools in Brighton and Hove to come and take over the organisation for a day. Pupils aged 16- 18 from Varndean School, Blatchington Mill School and BHASVIC spent the day with staff and trustees of the organisation in the central Brighton offices. "We strive to provide opportunities for young people," said Kyla Lucking, Acting Artistic Director and Head of Community and Learning.

 

The Artist Fellowships 2009 are announced

South East Dance is delighted to announce that the three Screen Dance Artists Fellows 2009 are: Lucy Cash, David Hinton and Margaret Williams. During 2009 all three artists will be undertaking a personal professional development programme specifically designed to support their individual development needs. The scheme is supported by the

Mobi Movies- WIN AN IPOD! EXTENDED DEADLINE

We challenge YOU to create a 1 minute dance for camera video on your mobile phone, video camera or digital camera. moving Voices taster workshops

moving Voices Coordinator, Amanda Evans, will be making visits all over the South East in early 2009 to introduce the project; giving young people the opportunity to find out more about moving Voices and how they can get involved. Debating Dance

 

Debating Dance is a new opportunity for artists, community practitioners and anyone who loves dance to come together to debate dance and dance practice. With one event per quarter, each evening has a different host. The next Debating Dance will be held on 22 January 2009 from 6-9pm at the Oxford Playhouse and will be hosted by Oxford-based independent dance artist Cecilia Macfarlane. More...

 

Creative Industries Award winner

South East Dance is delighted to have been presented with The Creative Industries Award as part of the Brighton and Hove Business Awards 2008. Ths year the organisers of the BAHBAs reported over 200 entries from 150 companies to arrive at a shortlist of 34 companies for fourteen awards.
