Physical Film

Physical Film is a unique opportunity for young people 'at risk' in rural and urban locations to create cutting edge screen dance. The young people, who come from alternative learning centres, have been working with dancers Victoria Fox and Jake Nwogu, alongside filmmakers Miriam King, Simon Wilkinson, Alex Reuben and Craig Viveiros, taking part in dance workshops and learning filmmaking skills. TAKE7 Study Pack

TAKE7 is a compilation DVD featuring seven outstanding short dance films curated by South East Dance. Each film is produced by some of Britain's most exciting and innovative filmmakers. We will shortly be offering a new Study Pack with TAKE7, written by award-winning screen dance filmmaker and choreographer Liz Aggiss, who is also a featured artist on the TAKE7 DVD. More...

 

Dance for Camera Nights

Dance for Camera Nights is our regular artists event featuring critical debate with guest speakers and a work in progress discussion.

Our next event is on Thursday 15 May, 6-9pm at Lighthouse Digital Lounge, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton. The theme for this session is Cultural Diversity in Screen Dance.

Adult Learners' Week

As part of Adult Learners' Week, South East Dance is offering taster dance classes in a range of styles including Bollywood and Samba. There are opportunities to take part in this throughout the South East region on Saturday 17 May. If you are aged between 13- 18 then bring along an adult over 18 to get involved. Foward Motion

Forward Motion is a British Council project co-produced by the British Council and South East Dance. It is a collection of contextualised DVDs of existing dance film and video, showcasing and celebrating UK dance on screen. Forward Motion will include four DVDs of content, a promoters pack, web based educational resources and an informative website.

South East Dance is delighted to announce 10 years of developing more and better dance, for communities, screen and performance through innovative, trailblazing and experimental programmes. moving Voices Coordinator

South East Dance would like to welcome Amanda Evans as the new moving Voices Coordinator. Amanda has the exciting task over the next three years of recruiting 3,218 young people aged 16 -25 to lead their own youth dance committees, plan and deliver dance activities and teach dance to people in their communities. moving Voices is funded by v, the youth volunteering charity. Lone Dances

The Lone Dances performance, entitled Still Life with Fiona was debuted as part of South East Dance's birthday celebrations on Thursday 6 March, where Fiona performed three times to an appreciative audience at The Basement, Brighton. One spectator said:'Fantastic Fiona! Brilliant balance. Concrete concentration. I think she should tour! And great to see a mum move, she must have very proud children!' More...

 

Big Dance

Big Dance 2008, held between 5- 13 July, is a week-long celebration of dance in all its styles and forms and is open to everyone to join in! South East Dance is coordinating a relay of events around the region that range from a performance danced on scaffolding to artists discussion forums.
