TAKEPART 2009 Festival

South East Dance is co-ordinating the Community Stage at this year's TAKEPART festival in Preston Park on Saturday 27 June. The festival, now in its second year, was set up by Brighton and Hove School Sport Partnership, Brighton and Hove City Council and Brighton and Hove NHS. The aim of the festival is simply to get more people to be more active more often. Local groups are invited to participate in staging a performance and given the opportunity to take part in workshops. The Community Stage will showcase dance performances. Flourish

Flourish, the cluster of professional development events throughout the South East, has proved a great sucess, with artists and practitioners alike giving positive feedback. One practitioner said of the dance in education workshop in Dartford:

'I left the workshop feeling full of energy and with tons of useful ideas for my professional development. The themes chosen were well structured, relevant to my needs and well delivered.' For more feedback and comments about Flourish click here.

 

Moving Mums

Moving Mums is a South East Dance project in partnership with Brighton and Hove NHS, offering a new programme of fun and safe dance classes specifically aimed at pregnant women who are inactive during their pregnancy. The free drop-in classes will start in late spring. This is a great opportunity to get women moving during their pregnancy, raise levels of fitness and help them feel more physically prepared for the time ahead. Dance for Camera Nights at moves 09, Manchester

South East Dance presents Dance for Camera Nights in Manchester, in partnership with moves 09. The event, hosted by Simon Fildes, will feature screen dance artist and South East Dance Fellow Lucy Cash discussing narrative in screen dance, followed by Manchester-based artist Kate Jessop presenting her work-in-progress. This is a chance to discuss the issues relevant to screen dance as well as an opportunity to learn from, and network with, fellow artists. moving Voices first birthday party

Are you aged between 16- 25?

Do you want to come and party with South East Dance and the moving Voices volunteers?

moving Voices, the voluntary dance project in the South East has come to the end of its first year and we are celebrating its success with a party! Join us at The Basement, Brighton, from 7pm on Thursday 2 April,with exciting guests including members of TV's Britannia High cast, live performances from the Funkstarz, DJs and more. Forward Motion- international screenings

South East Dance is delighted to announce that the first international screening of Forward Motion has taken place in Spain as part of S.P.A.C.E UK festival. Forward Motion is a package of high quality British screen dance expertly curated into three programmes. The collection was launched in December at Dance for Camera Festival 2008 in Brighton, since then interest has been mounting in Japan, Thailand, India and Australia. Subathra Subramaniam

Buckinghamshire-based artist, Subathra Subramaniam is the Education Co-Director of Cape Farewell, a project which brings together scientists, artists, educators and young people to raise awareness about climate change through art and science.

Subathra was the Artistic Co-director for the former dance company, Angika.

Subathra is involved in a diverse range of work including Returning to Dance Nepal, a project which uses dance and poetry to explore the theme of cultural exchange between the Gurka soldiers and the Nepalese community of Blandford Army Camp and the local community. Movement12

Movement12 is a group of independent dance artists based in and around Brighton who curate an international programme of artist-led professional development for dance artists. They aim to facilitate an environment in which the focus is on process, exploration and discovery rather than on product, and on giving professional dance artists some 'breathing space' in which to train, try things out and explore new territory. Their rolling programme includes regular movement classes, workshop and summer schools with internationally respected performance makers and teachers. With Jamie Watton now in place as CEO/Artistic Director, South East Dance will be embarking on a period of artistic and organisational review. This means that over the next few months we wll focus our attention on revisiting our artistic policies and planning for the future.
