PRE:VIEW

Pre:View is a pilot initiative that profiles young choreographers, providing an opportunity for those involved to engage directly with their audience through structured feedback. Joss Arnott Dance and Lîla Dance presented work at the Brighton Dome in March prior to performances of Ailey 2 at the Concert Hall. Following excellent audience feedback, South East Dance hopes Pre:View will become a regular initiative delivered with other partners across the region.

MOVING VOICES:

MOVING ON

Our flagship three year volunteering programme moving Voices culminated at the end of March and was marked by moving Voices: Moving On, a celebration where volunteers past and present shared their moving Voices experiences and took part in dance performances and workshops. South East Dance is now building a tangible legacy for the project and aims to role out the moving Voices model nationwide.

UK DANCE ENTREPRENEURS

South East Dance was delighted to be invited by The British Council to take part in the recent UK Dance Entrepreneurs visit to India. Aiming to broker cultural relationships and increase artistic exchange between dance artists and organisations in the UK and India, South East Dance's Artistic Director Jamie Watton attended the Attakkalari India Biennial as part of a five city tour that provided a fascinating introduction to dance developments in India.

SOUTH EAST DANCE AT BRIGHTON FESTIVAL

South East Dance is co-presenting a range of work as part of Brighton Festival in May 2011. Highlights include The Fault Index / The Clearing by Charles Linehan, a South East Dance co-commission; an interactive installation from digital artist Nic Sandiland, who is also delivering workshop activity as part of our Flourish programme; and Working Title – a platform profiling Brighton based choreographers. BIG DANCE SCHOOLS PLEDGE

Following the success of Big Dance 2010, South East Dance has teamed up with 5-a-day Fitness to deliver the Big Dance Schools Pledge 2011 across the South East. Schools all over the country will perform the same dance sequence on their school sites (increasing dance within curriculum time) at 1pm on 20 May 2011 as part of a cultural celebration and a warm up for Big Dance 2012. For more information and to get involved, contact Lauren Allary.

LOOKING FORWARD

March 2011 marked a new era for arts funding as Arts Council England announced its new National Portfolio. South East Dance is delighted its application was successful. 2011/12 will be a transition year for South East Dance as it lays foundations for a number of exciting projects, including the development of our satelite space at Hextable in Kent. We look forward to the future and to further supporting the growth of dance within and beyond the region.
