Associate Artists Announced

 

Following an overwhelming response to our open call for artists, we are pleased to announce that the South East Dance Associate Artists for the following two years are Subathra Subramaniam, Lucy Cash, Charlie Morrissey and Ben Wright. We are also delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Fogg as Creative Producer, who will work with the artists to support their creative and strategic development. More... The Associate Artists Programme is supported by Arts Council England, South East and Brighton and Hove City Council.

 

Call for Applications - Mentor Bank

We are now seeking applications from emerging artists and recent graduates who would like to take advantage of working with a mentor over a 12 month period. Mentor Bank is a one year pilot programme that has been made possible with funds from SEEDA.  It twins dance professionals based in the region with emerging artists and recent graduates. We welcome applications from those who are interested in pursuing a career in dance as a dancer, choreographer, producer or arts manager. More…

 

Programming Partnership

 

In November 2009 South East Dance joined forces with The Basement on a co-programming venture. Working in partnership we jointly presented and promoted Spanish artist Pere Faura in Striptease, a solo show in which he provocatively (and often hilariously) explores the conflicts and similarities between the sexual and the artistic gaze through a combination of film and performance. moving Voices update

 

moving Voices volunteers have been busy across the South East this autumn. October saw the launch of the moving Voices website; designed by volunteers the website contains volunteer news, events and pictures. In West Sussex, young parents had their first Youth Dance Committee meeting and committees in Oxford and Kent are meeting with their local council’s to discuss volunteering for the Oxford and Canterbury Festivals. In Hampshire volunteers are completing their Dance Leadership Awards. More…

 

 

11 Million Takeover Day

 

On 6th November South East Dance opened its doors once again, to over 35 dance and performing arts students from local colleges. The students were invited to ‘takeover’ the organisation for the day and contribute to discussions about different aspects of dance management. Staff led a range of workshops in areas such as marketing and business planning. moving Voices volunteer Cristina MacKerron, who coordinated the day, said: ‘We’re all very excited to be getting young people involved in making decisions in an area they are passionate about’. Flourish 2010: coming up...

 

The autumn programme of Flourish 2009 comes to a close on 5 December. Following the success of Flourish, we are now busily planning the next season with events including: an ‘Early Years’ workshop day aimed at managers, dancers and practitioners, a weekend intensive with seminal artist Rosemary Butcher and a curated talk by  South East Dance Associate Artist, Lucy Cash. Victoria Fox

 

Victoria Fox is co-creator of dance theatre company Underground 7, based in Brighton. She has recently taken part in The Place's Choreodrome event and describes her work as 'instinctive... working with ideas or emotion or movement that explores grey in-between areas'. Recent works include 'Human Shadows' created by Victoria as commissioned choreographer for The Place Prize 2008. More...

 

Salvage

 

Salvage is the latest work in development from Ben Duke's company Lost Dog, and has been commissioned by the Newbury Corn Exchange. The piece is described as sitting 'somewhere between dance and theatre, combining movement, text and live music'. Ben Duke explains: 'It will be funny, dark and physical... Forward Motion Sales Launch at Rich Mix

On 10 February 2010, the Forward Motion Sales DVD will be launched at Rich Mix, the vibrant East London multi-arts venue, in an event showcasing Liz Aggiss’ Survival Tactics for the Anarchic Dancer, and a skills swap shop for screen dance lecturers. Over the past year Forward Motion has also been screened at the Fuse Festival, Rochester; Dancebase, Edinburgh; Exeter Phoenix, and the Cornwall Film Festival.
