Co-Programming |
||||
In November 2009 South East Dance joined forces with The Basement on a co-programming venture. The Basement, a fellow Brighton based arts organisation, has a reputation for a bold and experimental cross arts programme which mirrors our own aspiration to be at the forefront of movement based work that is pushing the boundaries of dance.
Together with The Basement we jointly presented and promoted Spanish artist Pere Faura in Striptease, a solo show in which he provocatively (and often hilariously) explores the conflicts and similarities between the sexual and the artistic gaze through a combination of film and performance. The co-programming venture was a success and will mark the start of an expanding and ongoing relationship between the two organisations.
Helen Medland, Artistic Director, The Basement: “We are really excited to be working with South East Dance. The partnership will allow us to bring some fantastic artists to the region. It also represents a great opportunity to explore and challenge each others perspectives on contemporary performance.”
At South East Dance we think it is essential to nurture projects and artists who question conventional expectations, enabling dance to develop and thrive in new and interesting ways. To facilitate this we are committed to building partnerships with a range of organisations and individuals including relationships of the kind we have initiated with The Basement. These relationships help us to bring diversity and innovation to our core artistic programme and develop partnerships that are mutually beneficial, not least by allowing us to combine efforts to offer audiences enhanced opportunities for artistic experiences.
