Big Dance 2008 was a week-long celebration of dance in all its styles and forms and was open to everyone to join in! It was held between 5- 13 July 2008 and aimed to get as many people dancing as possible and to encourage people to keep dancing year round.

South East Dance coordinated a relay of events around the region. Organisations from the South East, including Jasmin Vardimon Company and Loop Dance took part in the relay throughout the week. Activities ranged from a performance danced on scaffolding at the Woking Dance Festival to a day of dance workshops and professional development at The Brook Theatre, Chatham involving the Youth Dance Company from Kent and the Dance for Life community team.

The youth dance company 'Feet First', who are based at The Point in Eastleigh, invited their family and friends to attend their regular dance class as part of Big Dance. Over 20 guests joined the class, which Feet First had named In My Shoes. Kim Johnson, Dance Development Manager at The Point said: 'In My Shoes was a great success! Everyone really enjoyed themselves and there was a fantastic atmosphere. We are thinking about making it an annual event!'

After each organisation had finished their activity, an image documenting the event was loaded onto the internet, providing an exciting record of the wide variety of events. To view the photographs from the performances visit the Flickr site here.

South East Dance would like to congratulate all the organisations and individuals involved in this years Big Dance 2008 who made it such a success. Roll on Big Dance 2009!
