Training opportunities for young people in the South East

Hofesh Shechter Company Workshops

Members of Hofesh Shechter Company will lead workshops for young people based on his distinctive and urban choreography.  Drawing on the Shechter’s own specific technique, workshop leaders will help participants find their way into this young company’s edgy style.  A focus on floor-work and dynamic fluid movement will quickly allow the young people to feel that they are progressing towards Shechter’s iconic choreography as seen recently in “Maxxie’s Dance” which he choreographed for E4’s Hit TV drama Skins.  The strength and masculine energy of Hofesh’s work is a great introduction for both young male and female participants to contemporary dance. The male participants identify with the characters and complex, playful movement vocabulary and the young females find new ways of moving that allow them to challenge their notions of physicality and the possibilities of dance.

Led by 2 dancers form the company. Workshops consist of a warm-up class to introduce them to the movement style and to prepare their bodies for the work, followed by repertory based sessions where they will learn sections of the work featured in the current tour.

Call for Dancers

Billy Cowie is beginning work on an Arts Council England funded dance-film installation entitled ‘Outing’ and is looking for three female dancers.

The style of the work will be similar to Cowie’s (in collaboration with Liz Aggiss) ‘Men in the Wall’ involving substantial amounts of text, humour and idiosyncratic contemporary dance movement. Click here.
