Conferences, seminars and performances in the South East
The Shadow of the Shape Formed South East Dance, in association with Akademi, Kadam and Sampad, invite artists and practitioners in South Asian Dance from across the Greater South East* to an Open Space Network Event on Thursday 22 July from 12.30pm till 4pm at The Lighthouse, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton BN1 4AJ [*incorporating the current London, South East and Eastern regions]
We are inviting all artists and practitioners in South Asian Dance to come to this meeting to inaugurate the creation of a new network, in which you, the artists, will set the agenda. During the afternoon there will be an "open space" session, which will aim to ensure that everyone has a voice and that everyone has a chance to air thier thoughts, views and opinions on the current state of South Asian dance across the Greater South East* and to express their hopes and aspirations for the future. This Open Space will be facilitated by Theresa Beattie.
There has been a rapid expansion of South Asian dance in Britain in the past 10 years and this has had a significant impact on the current state of UK contemporary dance, We might want to consider: - what are the challenges to the sector as we enter the second decade of the 21st century? - what are the opportunities we would like to see developing? - what might we want a netowrk for the Greater South East to look like? - what might its priorities be? in terms of sharing? collaborating? training? platforms? - what is the shadow of the shape formed by recent developments in South Asian dance and where might this extend in the future?
If you are interested in being a part of this new network, please come and join us on Thursday 22 July at The Lighthouse, Brighton, from 12.30pm when lunch will be provided before we begin the meeting at 1pm, continuing until 4pm. The event is free of charge. If ypu have any suggestions for the agenda, please do let us have them. Equally, if you cannot attend, but would like to be informed of future developments, please also let us know.
South East Dance are also pleased to offer £10 bursaries to help with travel expenses for each of the first 10 delegates who apply.
Please reply to: louise.hennessy@southeastdance.org.uk to reserve your place, or call Louise on 01273 696844 for any further information.
We look forward to seeing you there at what we hope will become a significant new voice for South Asian dance artists and practitioners.
