moving Voices is a brand new volunteer for dance project for 16-25 year olds across nine regions in the south east of England. These regions are: Brighton and Hove, West Sussex, East Sussex, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Kent.

This project runs for the next three years.

The aims of the project are to set up volunteer youth committees in each of the regions that can meet on a regular basis to discuss and decide what they want to do in their area.

To support this project we need:

mentors
dance specialists
youth workers
trainers
local dance and arts officers
venues/community centres
local business interest
sports development workers
crèche facilities for young parents
media and communications consultants.

The groups of young people we are looking to engage in this project are:

16-25 year olds interested in dance and/or visual media
young people who have little or no access to dance
young parents
BME groups.

Opportunities for young people include:

volunteering for the youth committees to be set up in each region
workshops in dance, web building, press and marketing, fundraising
a chance to socially network and be part of community of peers
dance performance and classes
dance teaching awards
set up events
make dance films
working with specialist dance teachers and choreographers
being involved in non performance roles; i.e. stage management, lighting, sound
designing the moving Voices interactive website
volunteering in the South East Dance offices
photography
fundraising
volunteers Award Scheme
national Annual Awards Ceremony with After Party
press and publicity.

Amanda Evans is the coordinator for moving Voices. She is the link person for all the regions and groups. She will liaise with all the agencies, councils and arts and dance officers, dance development workers, schools, colleges, pupil referral units, youth workers, community workers, community leaders.
