Press Release: Dance For Camera Night at Digital Lounge, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton
South East Dance is delighted to announce that their ongoing Screen Dance artists’ forum, formerly titled ‘Nightingale Nights’ is taking place on Thursday 22 March. This is the third of these nights, but the first with its new title and location.Professor Liz Aggiss will continue to chair the event in her own inimitable style with Becky Edmunds, Alex Reuben and Silke Mansholt contributing to the night's discussions.
The first part of the evening’s discussions will focus on the theme of Narrative Structure within Dance For Camera. Becky Edmunds and Alex Reuben will be discussing this topic in relation to their artistic practice and the work that was made on their recent road trips.
Becky Edmunds was selected as the UK artist for the International Fellowship delivered by South East Dance and Festival Internacional De Video-Danza De Buenos Aires, Argentina, in November 2006. Her aim was to research “my own habits of videography practice in the context of being in an unfamiliar environment, in order to explore if a shift in landscape and culture can promote a shift in creative practice…” (Edmunds 2006). She will introduce and contextualise her work, with screenings of video footage captured on her travels. A question and answer session with the audience will follow.
During the Summer of 2005 as part of the Capture 2005 commissioning scheme, Alex Reuben travelled across Americas deep South in search of fulfilling a lifelong dream to document the social dance of the region, his outcome is documented in his film ‘Routes’. He will discuss and show excerpts from ‘Routes’ followed by a question and answer session with the audience.
Artists and Filmmaker Silke Mansholt will conclude the evening with a feedback session focusing on her current work in progress, titled ‘A German Grandchild's Funeral’.
Places are limited. If you would like to attend this forum, please register your interest with Charlotte Miles, Screen Dance Administrator at charlotte.miles@southeastdance.org.uk.
