Press Release: London and South East based DMH Stallard, a Top 100 Law Firm, invites South East Dance to provide performance at The Corn Exchange on Friday 2nd February
DMH Stallard, one of the region's largest legal firms, invited South East Dance to provide a dance performance at its AGM party on Friday 2nd February.
South East Dance called upon the talents of JP Omari former Youth Development Worker at South East Dance, and ‘Strictly Dance Fever’ star to choreograph local award-winning breakdance crew the ‘Floor Crusaders’; who performed alongside youth street dance outfit ‘New Moves’. ‘New Moves’ performance was choreographed by Vikkie Steege, a local community artist and showcased some of the area's most talented young dancers.
South East Dance ‘Community and Learning’ department specialises in creating dance opportunities for 'at risk' young people and works towards increasing access for everyone to participate and benefit from dance.
Kyla Lucking, Head of Community and Learning at South East Dance comments:
“DMH Stallard’s contribution will cover performance costs and contribute towards the running of New Moves' Junior and Senior groups in East Brighton. New Moves street-dance classes were set up as part of South East Dance’s East Brighton Dance Development Programme. The group meet on Saturdays to take a class and create new dance routines to perform in local dance platforms and events. Several young people who accessed dance through New Moves have discovered a new passion for dance and special talent going on to GCSEs and A levels in dance, and even attending training at the prestigious dance conservatoires The Place and Laban Centre. In this way DMH Stallard’s support for South East Dance enables young people in East Brighton to dance. I’m so proud to see them entertaining a local audience!”
JP Omari was quoted as saying:
"I was delighted to be asked to choreograph this performance. I love performing in my home town and it was really exciting to have the challenge of working with professional breakdancers and talented youngsters from Brighton & Hove. It’s great to see local businesses supporting community dance work.”
After watching the breathtaking performance Tim Aspinall Managing Partner of DMH Stallard said,"DMH Stallard has supported the visual arts for over 8 years, but this was our first collaboration with dancers. We were delighted with the results, the high energy performances by 'New Moves' and the 'Floor Crusaders' were really well received by our partners and staff. Some of the moves were amazing! We are really pleased that are support will give more people in East Brighton the opportunity to get involved with a really exciting project."
Both South East Dance and DMH Stallard aspire to create sustainable arts and business relationships where local artists and community work is supported.
